Shoppers decide in seconds. On a crowded shelf or a busy online store, your packaging has to grab attention, explain the product and build trust, all at a glance. These seven principles guide every packaging project we design.
1. Make the product instantly clear
Within two seconds a shopper should know what the product is and who it is for. Lead with the product name, type and key benefit, and keep secondary information further down the hierarchy.
2. Design for the shelf, not just the screen
Packaging is seen from a distance, at an angle and next to competitors. Test designs at real size and in context, and make sure the brand and product name stay readable from a few metres away.
3. Use colour with purpose
Colour is the fastest signal on a shelf. Choose a palette that fits your category but still stands out from competitors, and use it consistently across your range.
4. Build a system for the whole range
If you sell several flavours, sizes or variants, create a packaging system: a shared layout and brand elements with a clear way to tell variants apart. This makes your range look bigger and easier to shop.
5. Keep it honest and simple
Clear claims and clean layouts build trust. Too many badges and messages compete with each other and make the product look cheaper.
6. Think about the unboxing
For ecommerce brands, the moment a customer opens the box is part of the experience. Inside prints, tissue paper and thoughtful details turn deliveries into moments people share on social media.
7. Get the technical details right
Great packaging must also print correctly. Designing on the printer’s dieline with proper bleeds, colour profiles and material choices avoids costly reprints.
At Graphisco we design packaging from concept to print-ready files, so your product looks as good on the shelf as it does in the mockup.
